My Favorite Few...

The Absolute Best
Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli
So in love with this dress and with this actress- she was great in Benjamin Button and I have never seen such sincerity amongst a designer-clad crowd. Beautiful!

Natalie Portman in Rodarte
Such an unexpected hue for the usually subtle starlet. Loved it!

Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad
Can't believe Hannah Montana scored this scene stealer-jealous!

Freida Pinto in John Galliano
Though it's not my personal style, the Indian Sari inspiration makes this one so special.

Move over Jen and John, Brad and Angelina- the hottest couple at the Oscars? Diane Lane and Josh Brolin by far. She's the ultimate in forty-something sexy and he's just such the man's man. Hot hot hot.

Where Have We Seen This Before?

Beyonce as an Oscar and...

Beyonce as a Golden Globe
Why!?!?

Heidi Klum in Red... So over it!
She still, of course, looks absolutely flawless

The Bold and the Bridal

Were these starlets walking on the red carpet or down the aisle last night? With soft Spring hues ahead (SJP called her dress "barely mint") it seems light whites, creams and champagnes are no longer only set aside for brides. I have to admit, they're all pretty gorgeous! Well done ladies (and they're stylists- who never get enough credit)!

Slumdog Sweeps!

Usually I am disappointed by the Oscars. Usually someone doesn't win that I was rooting for. Usually I am so out of the loop having not seen much of anything. So happy that was not the case this year! I was lucky enough to catch Slumdog just in time- Saturday night with the bf (thanks Drew!) And I loved it. It took home EIGHT Oscars last night and deserved every one of them. I also added Vicky Christina Barcelona to my list of faves this year, and was so so happy Penelope Cruz took home for Best Supporting Actress. Congrats to Hugh Jackman (how random!?) for putting on quite a show!

In a Barbie World

Happy Birthday Barbie! Though I am not quite your Barbie girl- never really was a fan as a youngin- I do love the looks designed for Barbie's 50th Anniversary show at Fashion Week. A mix of fun and fantasy, designers really had a good time with this one. Here are some of my favorites...

I'm Back This Time, Promise!

My life has been a little out of control recently. I just started a freelance gig with TheBudgetFashionista.com (check it out!) and am continuing to freelance at Original Penguin, not to mention putting in my hours and overtime at work. This, unfortunately, is my poor excuse for lack of posts.... and it's Fashion Week! What am I thinking?? Though I'm on my lunch break and don't have much time to dish, here are a few of my favorite celeb and designer duos.
My heart just skipped a beat... Victoria Beckam and Giorgio Armani

Grammy's + Red Carpet = zzzZZzzZzz

Did anyone else find the fashions at last night's Grammy Awards positively dull? No one looked spectacular- not even close. Here is a small collection of the red carpet duds that left me aching for the Oscars...
Miley Cyrus
Leona Lewis

Jennifer Hudson

Sheryl Crow

Okay maybe there were a few worth oogling at- but not for good reason!

Paula Abdul

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Sorry for the delay, but after a bit of a blogging break, I am happy to say that I am returning to regular posting.

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Chicago premiere of He's Just Not That Into You. In honor of the film (though I thought the book was much much better), I thought I'd show the big screen sirens on the red carpet. Statement necklaces, florals, big shoulders, oh my! I must say the ladies do look rather lovely and in-tune with Spring trends. My fave? Team Aniston once again! She looks so chic, timeless, effortless, etc. She was by far my favorite in the movie as well. Love her!

The Practical Princess Part I

One of the best things you can do to build your wardrobe is to concentrate on one clothing category- the classics. Those practical pieces that have the versatility to go from trend to trend, day to evening, season to season. As I have said before, if you are shopping under a tight budget, it is always best to fill your closet with classics first, then spend less on trendy statement accessories that will transform your look into the "it" look of season.

One great thing about the classics- you don't have to pay a lot to get a lot. Because every woman in all walks of life wears the classics, you couldn't closely tell a DVF from a Massimo when you've found the right fit. In this series of posts, I will give suggestions of what I think are the ultimate must-haves, where to find them, and how to wear them just right.

The Trouser
A great pair of black or grey pants will do wonders for your wardrobe. Great for work and play, the trouser is a simple way to reach complete sophistication.

Fit: The easiest way to entirely ruin a great pair of trousers is a bad fit. If the trouser is too short, sophistication goes straight out the window; but if too long, the looks turns slightly sloppy. Wear or carry a pair of heels when shopping for this classic item. When you try the trousers on with them, the hem should hit just a tiny bit above the floor. If you are tall (like me), look for a pair that has a cuff at the hem- that way you can take the pair to a tailor and use the extra fabric for lengthening the hemline.  Also, this pant should never be too tight. A great indication of a too-tight  trouser is a well too defined booty, creases that form around the front of the hips, and worst of all, a muffin top (a waistline that squeezes your hips/stomach so much that it creates a sort of bulge around the middle). Don't be afraid to go up a size if necessary, no one but you knows what size you're wearing and you'll feel better and look thinner in a size that fits you appropriately.

The Ensemble: You know you've found the perfect pair of trousers when you put them on, feel great in them, and think to yourself, "Wow, I could wear these with anything!" Blouses, sweaters, cardigans, knits, halters, blazers, etc, etc, etc! For work wear with anything with a sleeve (short, 3/4, wrist or long in length) and for play dress them up by baring a little more skin with a cute halter or one-shoulder top. As long as you look and feel fabulous, anything goes!

Taking on the Trends: A great way to take a a trouser from one trend to the next is by accessorizing with great shoes and belts. With stores like H&M, Forever 21, and Target putting out trendy shoes each season, you are bound to find a fabulous, on-trend pair at a low cost. However, you must consider the type of shoe for the season- bulky wedges and platforms are generally trouser no-no's as they deter the straight line of the pant and over power the look as a whole. Go with a pretty pump or stiletto in the season's hottest hue to lengthen the leg and be on track with the trends. Right now belts of all shapes, sizes, textures and colors are considered in style. My personal favorite is the skinny belt. I think it adds just the right touch of class without looking over-accessorized (another big fashion faux-pas in my book).

Here are some fabulous options from Banana Republic (bananarepublic.com) at even more fabulous prices.
